The Bible is not set in a made-up world. Every story happened in a real place — places you can find on a map today. The lands of the Bible are in what we now call the Middle East — a region that includes modern-day Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, and Turkey.
Understanding where these stories happened makes them come alive. When you know that David fought Goliath in a real valley, that Noah's ark came to rest on a real mountain, and that Moses crossed a real sea — the stories feel different. They feel true.
🏛️ The Ancient World
The Bible covers thousands of years of history — from the creation of the world to the early Christian church. The stories we know best — Creation, Noah, Moses, David, Jesus — span from roughly 2000 BC to 30 AD. That is over 2,000 years of real human history recorded in one book.

Modern-day Iraq. The land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. One of the oldest civilisations on earth. The Garden of Eden and Noah's flood are set here.

The Egyptians — One of the most powerful civilisations in history. Ruled by Pharaohs. Enslaved the Israelites for generations.
The Philistines — Enemies of Israel. Goliath was a Philistine warrior. They controlled the coastal regions of Canaan.
The Romans — By the time of Jesus, Rome ruled the known world. Jesus was crucified under Roman law.

When you know that David was a real king whose palace archaeologists have found evidence of — the story of David and Goliath is not just a children's tale. It is a record of a real battle between real people in a real place. History gives the stories weight.
